‘Kismet’ 8”x6”. It has been some time since I focussed on my small work. It is on these small scraps of board that I experiment, practice, think, and feel my way forward. I shot the photo for this study years back. I liked the feeling of the mannequins silently watching the passers-by, even through the night. And what colours do between the shadows of the street lights, vs under their glare. This shop is in the Kensington neighborhood, in Calgary. It’s one of those lovely areas with older architecture, locally owned shops and quaint eateries. I’ve spent many afternoons wandering its streets, taking fun photos and getting ideas for paintings. I hope that as time moves on, it retains its local flavour and storefronts. It’s nice to see many people enjoying their leisure time there, shopping and catching up with friends and family.
